The authors of two of last year’s most acclaimed novels join writer snad editor Natasha Lehrer to discuss memory, mothers, marriage, bookshops, betrayal and bagels. Esther Freud’s semi-autobiographical Hideous Kinky first earned her a place on Granta’s Best Young Novelists list; three decades on, she revisits those characters in My Sister and Other Lovers, described as “delicate and profound” by Tracy Chevalier. Miriam Robinson’s debut And Notre Dame is Burning (“Exceptional”, The Bookseller) saw her hailed by The Mail on Sunday as “a thrilling new voice in literary fiction”.
