40 years after it first emerged from the New York underground scene, the Punk movement continues to excite and inspire. “Professor of Punk” Vivien Goldman has brought together Geoff Travis, Daniel Miller, Charles Shaar Murray and Toby Mott to discover a less well-known side of the movement, the stories of the many Jews among its key players and innovators.

Toby Mott

Toby Mott is a British artist, designer, and sometime Punk historian known for his work with the Grey Organisation, an artists’ collective that was active in the 1980s, and for his fashion brand Toby Pimlico.

Vivien Goldman

Vivien Goldman is a writer, educator, broadcaster and musician. A Londoner, she has lived in Paris and Jamaica and now resides in New York. Revenge of the She-Punks, Goldman’s award-winning sixth book, won Rough Trade’s Book of the Year in the US and the UK, and earned the Best Music Journalist Award from Germany’s Reeperbahn Festival.

Charles Shaar Murray

Charles Shaar Murray is a former NME journalist, broadcaster and the author of several books including The Guitar Geek Dossier.

Geoff Travis

Geoff Travis is the founder of both Rough Trade Records and the Rough Trade chain of record shops. A former drama teacher and owner of a punk record shop, Travis founded the Rough Trade label in 1976.
