The winning author will receive £1,000 prize and their work will be considered for publication by specialist Jewish children’s book publisher Green Bean Books. The winners of the fourth Jewish Children’s Book Awards were Joe Yaffie from Glasgow, Scotland, for his story Mensch the Mouse and Lihie Jacob for her illustration, Three Wise Cats. Each winner received £1000 and Mensch the Mouse will be considered for publication by Green Bean Books. The awards were judged by author and director of acquisitions, PJ Library, Chris Barash; publisher of Green Bean Books Michael Leventhal, editor of Jewish Renaissance Rebecca Taylor; renowned illustrator and writer Omer Hoffmann and Associate Curator of Illustrated Children’s Book at The Israel Museum in Jerusalem, Orna Granot.
The winners of the third Jewish Children’s Book Awards were Julie Form from Germany for Moses the Matzah Sparrow and Ukranian-born Julia Krasovitsky from Germany for her depiction of the yiddish folk tale A Squash and A Squeeze.
Green Bean Books and Jewish Book Week are delighted to reveal the winners of the second Jewish Children’s Book Awards. The winner of the illustration prize is Italian-Jewish illustrator Mel Zohar. The winner of the writing prize is London-based Dina Leifer for And Eddie Had An Egg. And Eddie had an Egg is due to be published by Green Bean Books in the coming year.
