We are delighted to announce that The Hebrew Teacher, translated by Jessica Cohen, has won the 2026 Risa Domb/Porjes Prize for Hebrew-English translation. Awarded triennially since 1998, the £2,000 prize recognises an outstanding English translation of a full-length Hebrew book of literary merit and general interest. The judges (David Herman (chair), Dr Leya Landau, and Professor Miri Rubin) praised Jessica Cohen for the superb quality and range of her work.
The shortlist for the tenth Risa Domb/Porjes Prize for Hebrew-English translation has been announced. This year’s judging panel is chaired by journalist, critic, and producer David Herman, who is joined by lecturer in English Literature Dr Leya Landau and Professor of Medieval and Early Modern History Miri Rubin.

The tenth Risa Domb/Porjes Prize for Hebrew-English translation welcomed submissions for translations of a full-length work of fiction or non-fiction, translated between January 2022 and December 2024.
The longlist will be announced in November 2025 and the shortlist in December 2025. The winner will be announced in February 2026

Endless Waters translated by Linda Yechiel
The ninth triennial prize for translation from Hebrew to English was awarded in February 2023 to Linda Yechiel for her translation of House on Endless Waters by Emuna Elon.
The 2023 prize, worth £2,000, recognised an outstanding translation of a full-length work of literary merit and general interest, published in English between January 2019 and December 2021, irrespective of the date of original publication.
The award was announced at the Society of Authors Literary Translation Prize ceremony, held at the British Library.
Hameiri’s Hell on Earth translated by Peter C. Appelbaum
The winner of the 2019 prize was Peter C. Appelbaum for his translation of Avigdor Hameriri’s Hell on Earth.
