"“He who has a why to live can bear with almost any how.”
As we continue through the Days of Awe, Frankl’s writings on meaning and inner freedom serve as a perfect companion for this time of reflection and spiritual renewal. In 1945, over only nine consecutive days, neurologist and psychiatrist Victor Frankl wrote ‘Man’s Search for Meaning’, based on his experiences in four concentration camps. In the camps, he wrote, all the familiar goals in life are snatched away. What alone remains is “the last of human freedoms” [the ability to] “choose one’s attitude in a given set of circumstances.” A vital reminder of how optimism for the future may stem from the most tragic lessons of the past."
