Hettie Judah offers a fresh perspective on the artist’s life and legacy
To coincide with Tate Modern’s Frida: The Making of an Icon, join writer and art historian Hettie Judah to explore a fascinating hidden story at the heart of the exhibition: the passionate relationship between Kahlo and photographer Nickolas Muray, her lover of ten years. Born Miklós Mandl to a Jewish family in Hungary in 1892, Muray was an Olympic fencing champion and pioneer of colour photography. Hettie will consider how their relationship inspired some of Kahlo’s most important paintings, and how Muray in turn contributed to her posthumous status as a global icon.
