Born in Jerusalem in 1954, David Grossman is one of Israel’s most celebrated writers. For over 30 years, his work has explored war and peace, love, loss, and the complexity of family. He has published over 35 books – fiction, nonfiction, and children’s literature – translated into 45 languages, with his writing featured in The New Yorker, The Guardian, The New York Times, and more. Many of his works have been adapted for stage and screen around the world.

Grossman has received numerous international honors, including the Man Booker International Prize, Israel Prize for Literature, Peace Prize of the German Book Trade, Prix Médicis, EMET Prize, and most recently, the Heinrich Heine Prize and Countess Marion Dönhoff Prize in 2024.
