Philippe Sands is Professor of Public Understanding of Law at UCL and Visiting Professor at Harvard Law School. He is a practising barrister and arbitrator at 11 Kings Bench Walk, and has acted in many significant cases before international courts. He is the author of Lawless World, Torture Team, East West Street (winner of the Baillie Gifford Prize for Non-fiction) and Sunday Times bestsellers The Ratline, 38 Londres Street and The Last Colony. He has served as President of English PEN and a member of the board of the Hay Festival. His new book The Fifth Crime: On Ecocide, Justice and Hope publishes on 8th April 2027
